Biography
Anna Constanze (Brockdorf) von Cosel is Notable.
Anna Constanze, or Anna Constantia (in Polish: Anna Konstancya) von Brockdorff was born in 1680. She was the daughter of Ritter (Knight) Joachim von Brockdorff and his wife Anna Margarethe Marselis.
She married Adolph Magnus, Baron Hoym, on 2 July 1703, after four years of open concubinage. They were divorced in 1706.
Meanwhile, Anna Constantia had met Augustus "the Strong", Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, and became his official mistress (succeding the Princess Teschen) in 1705. In 1706 she was created Imperial Countess (Reichsgräfin) of Cosel. The affair produced three children:
- Augusta Anna Constanze, born 24 February 1708
- Friederike Alexandrine, born 27 October 1709
- Friedrich August, born 27 August 1712.
In 1713, Anna Constantia was banished to Pillnitz Castle, while Maria Magdalena Bielinski, Countess von Dönhoff became the king's new favorite. Anna Constantia fled to Berlin in 1715, but in 1716 she was arrested and sent to Burg Stolpen, where she was kept until her death in 1765.
