Biography

Sebastian Brosius was born in Germany and came over to America with his father and mother in 1740. His family settled in Tulpehocken Twp, then a part of Lancaster County. He was a member of the first congregation during the founding of the Altalaha Lutheran Congregation at Rehrersburg officially in 17S7, along with Johann Nicholas Schaeffer and Joseph Roth. In fact he donated land to the church in about 1765 when he deeded about 60 rods of Brosius land to the church.
After the death of his parents around 1773, Sebastian moved his family to Northumberland County. There he lived out the remainder of his life. Sebastian Brosius was buried at the Himmel Church Cemetery, Rebuck, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.

Notes: Johannes George Brosius arrived in America with his wife (Anna Catharina Simon, widow of Abraham Schneider), step-children and children. He was naturalized in Lancaster County on 8 March 1742. He lived on a tract of land known as the "Manor of Adulhea" which was part of the Tulpehocken Settlement of what would become Berks County. He was an original member of the Christ's Tulpehocken Church. Johannes George had two known sons, Sebastian and Johannes Nicholas, both of whom eventually settled in Northumberland County, PA (in the section known as the Mahantonga Valley).
