Newton Boyd Brown Passes in Peterborough Newton B. Brown, youngest in the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. James H. Brown, died Sunday evening, October 5th, 1980. He was born on Chesterfield Farm where aa nephew J. Ross Brown resides on June 18th, 1905. He and his wife, the former Mary Francis, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Francis of near Bright have lived many years in Peterborough. He attended Blink Bonnie and Plattsville Continuation Schools and then apprenticed at Bright Cheese and Butter factory, under manager O. R. Francis. After his marriage they were in Brantford where he was employed at Silverwood's Dairy, then to Cayuga where he was manger at Silverwood's, then to Peterborough and continued for a while with Silverwood's until changing to a position of engineer at the Quaker Oats Co. until retirement. He belonged to Chesterfield Church and kept interest here, being a couple who were anticipated to visit at anniversary time in June until the last two years when the lengthy drive he found tiring, after suffering a heart condition, and hospitalization. However doctors said to keep active without exhaustion, so he did some supervisor at the arena and curling ice, and some golfing. He enjoyed gardening and last summer painted their large home. Both he and Mrs. Brown were sociable and active in the church and charitable organizations, so had many friends. They had also done some traveling while able because of communication was received from "Down Under" a few years ago. Surviving are daughters Penny (Mrs. John Irwin) of North Bay; Molly (Mrs. Robert James), Ottawa; Ellen (Mrs. Junior Ellis), Peterborough; and one son Ronald of Windsor, and ten grandchildren. Predeceasing was twin baby son, Donald, 42 years ago. Also a brother Wallace R. Brown Jan 1976 and W. R.'s twin sister Zella (Mrs. Gray) May 1980; a brother Lorne died Sep 22, 1904. Surviving is a sister Amy (widow of John L. Scott) formerly of Chesterfield and Plattsville but now of Kitchener. Funeral service was held Wednesday in Peterborough, and expected internment at Chesterfield.
