Biography

Janet (Brown) Ralston was an early resident of the Scottish Settlement in Argyle, Illinois.

Janet was born in 1802 in Argyll, Scotland. She was the daughter of Charles Brown and Elizabeth Ralston. [1]

She married Peter Ralston of Brecklate on 21 January 1820 in Southend.[2]

Peter and Janet traveled with six of their children from Campbeltown, Scotland in 1840 to New York on the ship "British Barque Tay". [3]

They went to live with her brother, Alexander in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then to Illinois in 1843, where they were part of the Scottish Settlement at Argyle. [4]

Janet died in August of 1845 after giving birth to Jane who only lived nine days.
