Biography

Name: Fred J Brown.

My great uncle was Fred J Brown he lived at 706 Baldwin Drive Pittsburgh Pa He was born in Derry Pa, His mother Ida Pitchske Brown contracted Scarlet Fever from the Doctor who delivered Fred and she died 5 days after he was born. He had 3 older Brothers.

Lived with Aunt and Uncle the Pahil family 1920.

He married the Love of his Life Mary Catherine Shearer ( Kitty) in Cumberland Maryland, He was an electrician beginning his career at the Hotel Hershey in Hershey Pa, wiring the stables. (it paid twice the pay as a laborer so he said he was an electrician) He continued to work in the Pittsburgh area until he was stricken with blindness around 1940. there was nothing any Doctor could do. He learned braille and built a business selling household items over the telephone. He had a large client base on Rolodex cards, The items he sold were made by the blind ie: brooms kitchen towels etc. He felt he helped them by selling the items too. He was an active member of the Lions club and a big fan for the Pittsburgh Pirates. My father Charles Brown went and stayed with Fred and his wife a few weeks each year during the summerin the 1930s and when I was a boy in the 1960s, I did too. They never had children and treated us like their kids. He was a very positive person and overcame almost any obstacle.

He had a stroke and never recovered, dying soon after. by keith J brown
