Witty yet wise, grave, good, amonge ye best
Was he (the memory of ye just is Blest),
Prudent, a pattern, Pillar, and more say,
A hearty morner for the Sins of the Day;
Bless’d God, When Dying, That he feard not Death,
His pious Soul Took Wings, gave up her Breath
Dropt here her Mantle in the Silent Dust Which Waits the Resurrection of :the Just.

Capt. John Brown's likenamed contemporary at Reading, John Brown/Browne, was born about 1628. He died at Reading 27 July 1714 at about age 86.[8] The two are easily confused; fortunately, their respective wills -- naming family members -- clarify which is which.[9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Here's a published secondary source on the Brown genealogy of Reading:

Whitney, Charles Carrell, (1832-) "Some Brown genealogy; being some of the descendants of John Brown, one of the early settlers of Reading, Mass." pub 1897. E-book in the public domain at: https://archive.org/details/somebrowngenealo00whit/page/n10/mode/1up/search/early+reading%2C+middlesex%2C+massachusetts?q=early+reading%2C+middlesex%2C+massachusetts

hello PM & Christopher, Re: Capt. John Brown son, John Brown who's currently not attached to a mother. Given the marriage date for John Brown and Elizabeth (Bulkeley) Emerson Brown at face value it appears the 45 year old Elizabeth is the mother of her 47 yr old husband's son John Brown b. Dec 1682. His b. date means she had to have been pregnant right after the marriage. As Christopher stated below Capt. John Brown had son named John but there aren't any sources (yet) to provide for a birth date.
Christopher, I need to 'digest' this information again to see if I can help. I promise all your wonderful work won't go to waste. Leigh Anne
Followup comment: the will of _the other_ “John Browne” -- born in 1628; died 1714 -- (spelled "Browne" in probate label, text, and signature) was made 18 May 1709 and proved 29 August 1714. This is the fellow who used to be represented by Brown-1129.

PLEASE NOTE: That John Browne's will names these children: Elezebeth Hazeldon, Hanah Parker, _Martha Ffarington_, Mary Brown, Nathaniel Browne, and _John Browne_ (left only 5 shillings “because he is a Stubborn Dissobedentt And a Rebelyous Son To me.”). The will does not name his wife, but his (second) wife and “Relect widdo” Sarah Browne/Brown (both spellings appear in the document) signed a quitclaim on 29 July 1714 which is included in the probate file. (Possibly the marriage to Sarah was very late, occurring after the will was drafted in 1709; or there may be another reasons she is not in the will: I'll be researching this.) Two of the children named in this profile -- Martha and John -- belong to this other John Browne. Only daughter Anna (see below) belongs here.

THE WILL OF THIS 1634-1717 JOHN BROWN(E), made 18 February 1712/13 and proved 29 April 1717, NAMES ONLY THESE INDIVIDUALS: “brother Josiah Browns son John Brown”, “my cousen Cornelious Brown”, “my son in Law Ebenezer Emerson”, “my cousen Mary Gould ye daughter of my my brother Cornelious Brown”, “Mrs. Peirpoint ye relict of ye reverend Mr. Jonathan Peirpont”, _“my Loving Son & Daughter Peter & Anna Emerson”_ and “ye children of my daughter by my son Emerson”, and (as overseers) “my cousens John Woodward & Nicolas Brown”. The will does not name a wife.

Tracing the family of "the other" John Browne through the next two generations is something of a nightmare, and I have now been in it for nearly two weeks. It turns out that the lost John Brown of Brown-1129, merged away last July, _still has a profile on WikiTree_ under the spelling Browne: John Browne. _The first of the four wives shown in this profile, Elizabeth Osgood Brown -- as well as the children Martha and John -- also appears to belong to Brown-2283._ I will verify this before making the switch.

Please let me know of any objections or concerns. I am treading as carefully as I can with these Brown(e) lines; I wish to ensure I am not stepping on any toes. All feedback is welcome.

PMs and TL members please note: the merged profiles (last July) of Brown-1129 and Brown-3027 were actually of two different John Brown(e)s of Reading, MA; their distinct death records can be found on FamilySearch, and their respective wills are visible (by subscription) on NEHGS (americanancestors.com). Brown-3027, as shown in this profile, lived from 1634 to 1717. Brown-1129 lived from 1628 to 1714. Brown-1129 cannot be recreated, but as it turns out, the same individual is represented on WikiTree as Browne-2283. [At least one merge will be needed in the next generation; it is going to take a little time to sort out the legitimate Brownes and Browns.] Please assist in ensuring that these two John Brown(e)s of Reading are not again confused in future. Thanks.

Brown-3027 and Browne-1129 appear to represent the same person because: Exact same man. Note per source: Some Brown Genealogy; Descendants of early settlers of Reading, MA. Compiled by Wharles C. Whitney (1897) "John Brown the younger whose father came from Worcestershire, Eng. was b. 1634, Lynn, now Reading." So you're both half right by this source which makes more sense since his brother before him was born in Reading. All the siblings need a review but in the meantime please approve this merge. Thanks.
Brown-41726 and Brown-3027 appear to represent the same person because: same person, after merge wives need to be researched.
