The Honorable Thomas Browning, son of Joshua Browning and Ann (Scott) Browning was born December 17, 1767, in Culpeper county, Virginia. On November 2, 1793, Thomas married Elizabeth Wright. They were the parents of eleven children:

Harriett Le Wright Browning, born May 2, 1802, in Mason county, Kentucky, married Robert Buchanan, on October 31, 1822
Robert Le Wright Browning, born May 21, 1803, in Mason county, Kentucky, died March 27, 1850, married Eleanor Agnes Henlon on December 13, 1820
Alfred Browning, born 1805, died young
Ludwell Yancey Browning, born July 19, 1807, in Germantown, Kentucky, died April 5, 1845, married Julia Reed on April 5, 1825
