Biography

John Bridges (Brugge) was a son of Baldwin Brugge. His mother may have been Isabel de Grandison sometimes Elizabeth, but there appears to be some doubt as to the wife of Baldwin Brugge.[1][2][3]

He married a daughter of Sir Myles Pine who bore him at least three sons, Richard, Thomas and John.[1]

'Sir John Brugge' was said to have been at the Battle of Agincourt.[2][4] A Thomas Brugge was listed by Nicolas in his History of Agincourt but not a John Brugge. There was a John Burgh but he may be distinct to John Brugge.[5][6]

He was succeeded at Bridge Solers by his son and heir Thomas.[2]

Research Notes

He is distinct from John Brugge of Staunton on Wye, Herefordshire, who died 30 Sep 1436 without a male heir.[7][8] The Bridges pedigree in the Visitation of Gloucestershire[1] claimed that John Bridges, son of Baldwin Bridges, was of "Staunden". This appears to be an error.

Hello Stevenson, following on from my comment below and the sources shown in the profile, I propose to create a new profile for John Brugge of Herefordshire, son of Edmund, as distinct from John Brugge of Gloucestershire, son of Baldwin. Are you happy for me to proceed? Regards, Steve

John Brugges ISN'T the son of Baldwin. John son of Baldwin had an heir Thomas & in turn Thomas had many heirs. See Collins Peerage of England Link PG. 350-

John Brugge died on 30 Sept. 1436, his heir being Sir John Baskerville, the son of his daughter Joan. This is the John you want to use in your profile. Here's the History of Parliament Link-
