Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
James Brumfield was a Virginia colonist.

James was born in 1685 and baptised on 29 March 1685 in Abingdon Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia. He was the son of James Brumfield and Patience Sutton.[1] He passed away about 1755 in Gloucester County, Virginia.

Marriages & Children

Most family trees give James' wife as Elizabeth Francis Watson. An alternative theory states James was married twice, first to Elizabeth Francis about 1716 in Gloucester County, Virginia. Following her death he married Elizabeth Watson in Accomack County, Virginia after 1734. I will not at this time attempt to confirm or deny this proposition. I leave that to descendants of James and his wife or wives. For information on land transactions, relocations, family and information on the proposition of two wives, see James Brumfield & Elizabeth Francis (Strutton-11 17:42, 11 December 2020 (UTC))

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Do either of you have a record showing James was really born in Virginia? The information I have posted shows him immigrating to Virginia from england.

Hey JD and Lynn,

I have been trying to find a connection to someone who is descended from Moses. This is an attempt to triangulate DNA which this other person and I share. The connection seems to be to this James, through a possible son, John Watson Brumfield. Hopefully I'll be able to document the connection and update this child for James.
