Biography

Marie Brun was born about 1658 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Vincent Brun (abt. 1611–abt. 1686) and Renée Breau (abt. 1616–bef. 1678).[1]

Marie was listed in the 1671 census of Port-Royal, age 12, with her parents and her four siblings.[2]

Marie (18) married François Gautrot (19) (born about 1657 in Port Royal, Acadie; son of François Gautrot and Edmée Lejeune) in 1677 in Port Royal, Acadie.[1] Their known son was François Gautrot (abt. 1678–1759).

In the 1678 census, newly married François and Marie appear with their only son, François.[3]

Around 1683, the widowed Marie (24) married Abraham Bourg (20) (born in 1662 in Port-Royal; son of Antoine Bourg and Antoinette Landry) in 1683 in Port Royal, Acadie. Their known children were:

  1. Jean Baptiste Bourg (abt. 1684–aft. 1701) .
  2. Marguerite Bourg (abt. 1685– ) .
  3. Claude Bourg (abt. 1688–1751) .
  4. Pierre Bourg (abt. 1689–bef. 1735) .
  5. Marie Bourg (1691–1727) .
  6. Michel Bourg (abt. 1693–bef. 1766) .
  7. Charles Jacques Bourg (1695–aft. 1758) .
  8. Joseph Bourg (abt. 1698– )

In 1686, at Port Royal, Marie BRUN, aged 24, was living with her husband, Abraham BOURC [sic], aged 25, and their two young children: Jean [recte Jean Baptiste], aged 2, and Marguerite, aged 6 months. They owned 1 gun and were living on 6 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 10 sheep, and 8 hogs.[4]

The censuses between 1693 and 1701 show that Marie and her family remained in Port-Royal.[5][6][7][8]

Marie passed away on April 13 1736 and was buried the next day. It is written in the burial record that she was 75 years of age.[9][1]
