SANITORIUM - Three persons were killed in a four vehicle accident on Highway 49 about a mile and a half north of here Tuesday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. (Kattie) Bryant and their son, Velpo, 48, all of Route 3, Magee. Mr. Bryant was 79, his wife, 66; and their son 48.
Highway patrolman Jack Wilson said the elderly couple were apparently killed instantly. The younger Bryant died about an hour later in the Simpson County Hospital.
Wilson said a transport truck apparently crashed head-on with the Bryant car. The death car then crashed into another truck and a station wagon.
There were no injuries in the other three vehicles. No charges have been filed pending a complete investigation.
The driver of the transport truck was identified as Charles Smoot, 30, of Charleston, Mo. The Bryant car was traveling north and the transport truck was headed south at the time of the acident [sic].
The bodies were taken to Mims Mitchell Funeral Home in Magee.[8]
