Bumpas-82 and Bumpass-28 appear to represent the same person because: John "Tar River" Bumpass was Samuel's son. Samuel was a brother of "Fighting John" Bumpass and head of the Tar River branch of this family. "Tar River" John married his cousin Elizabeth. See "The Heritage of Person County, Person County Historical Society, 1981, Hunter Publishing, Winston-Salem, pg. 187." "Tar River" John is father to "Deer Head" John Bumpass.
