Biography

Jackson Burgess was born in Appalachia, in Ohio.

Jackson Alexander Burgess was born on July 22, 1854 in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States, son of William Burgess (1830–1917) and Mary Ann Pinkerman (1830–1906).

Jackson (19) married Mary Minta Faulkner (16) (born on February 16, 1857 in Lawrence, Ohio; daughter of William Faulkner and Sarah (Fox) Faulkner) about 1874.

Jackson (47) married Florence A. Payne (27) (born on June 2, 1874 in Carter County, Kentucky) on December 24, 1901 in Lawrence County. [1]

In the 1870 census Jackson (age 15) was in Windsor Township, Lawrence, Ohio, United States.[2] William Burgess 43, Mary Burgess 39, Sarah Burgess 19, Jackson Burgess 15, Virginia Burgess 11, William Burgess 8, Lydia Burgess 4.

In the 1880 census Jackson (age 26), Laborer, was the married head of household in Windsor Township, Lawrence, Ohio, United States.[3] Jackson Burgess 26, wife Mary Burgess 22, daughter Ann Burgess 4, daughter Kate Burgess 2.

In the 1900 census J (age 46) was the married head of household in Huntington city Ward 3, Cabell, West Virginia, United States.[4] J A Burguss 46, wife Mary Burguss 43, daughter Malisa Burguss 22, son V T Burguss 16, son Lonie Burguss 11, daughter Luella Burguss 9, son Lonnie Burguss 7.

In the 1910 census Jackson (age 55) was the married brother of Jeff Burgess in Windsor, Lawrence, Ohio, United States.[5] Jeff Burgess 48, father William Burgess 79, brother Jackson A Burgess 55, sister-in-law Florence Burgess 35, nephew Jackson L Burgess 17, niece Virgie J Burgess 7, niece Fannie M Burgess 6, niece Hazel F Burgess 5, nephew Shirly T Burgess 1.

In the 1920 census Jackson (age 65) was the married head of household in Cabell, West Virginia, United States.[6] Jackson Burgiss 65, wife Florence Burgiss 43, son Virgie Burgiss 17, daughter Fannie Burgiss 16, daughter Hazel Burgiss 14, son Shirley Burgiss 10, daughter Selesta Burgiss 8, daughter Edith Burgiss 4, son Van Burgiss 35.

Jackson died on January 12, 1929 in Gideon, Cabell, West Virginia, United States, aged 74. He was buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio.[7][8]
