Hugh married Vera Daugherty (1907 - ) on 17 Jun 1929 in Matador, Motley, Texas and they had one child together.
He died on May 2, 1979, in Frederick, Oklahoma, at the age of 81, and was buried in Tipton, Oklahoma.[3][4]
