Sadly her older brother Henry "Harry" passed away on 12 October 1863 on board the ship Brennan en route from Bremerhaven, Germany to Southampton, England, as a result of contracting scarlet fever. Tragically Sissy passed away just 19 days later, after succumbing to the same disease. She was just shy of her third birthday[4].

BURWELL- Oct. 29, in her 2nd year, Sarah Christina, only surviving child of Mr. A. H. Burwell, of Chelsea, Massachusetts, U.S.[5]
She was buried on 31 October 1863 at St James Garden Cemetery, Liverpool, Metropolitan Borough of Liverpool, Merseyside, England. Grave 945C[6][7]
