Artha was the son of Orlander Jackson "Jack" Byrd and Caroline "Carrie" Howell.[1][2] He was born in Mississippi[1][2] 28 Feb 1902.[3]
He married Mollie Robinson on 22 Dec 1921 in Smith County, Mississippi.[4][5]
Artha died 20 Mar 1926[3] of pneumonia.[6] At the time, the Byrd family superstitiously believed he became ill because of getting wet one day going out to get the mail. [6] He is buried in Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Mize, Smith County, Mississippi.[3]
