Biography

Colonel Francis Otway Byrd was the son of William Byrd of Westover, Virginia.[1]

He married Anna Munford on 6 April 1781 in Mecklenburg, Virginia, United States.[1]

He married Ursula Anna (aka Nancy Munford). She was the second daughter of Colonel Robert Munford of Mecklenburg, Virginia.[1]

He served in the Revolutionary War.[1]

On 18 February 1790, he was living Charles City, Virginia. His neighbor, Mary Byrd, was very wealthy.[2]

He died in September of 1800.[1]

On 30 Oct 1838, his 73 year old widowed wife, Anna Byrd, was in Lynchburg, Campbell, Virginia, United States.[1]

On 23 Nov 1838, his sister, Maria H Page, was in Clarke, Virginia, United States.[1]

On 15 Apr 1843, Anna Byrd was age 77.[1]

Anna remained a widow until her death on 21 Aug 1844.[1]

At the time of her death, 3 children survived her:[1]

  3. Abby Davis

On 31 May 1845, Ann O Wright, served as Anna's executor.[1]

Note on Pension Application Transcription[1] The pension file contains a copy of a deed dated 8 October 1781 transferring land from Robert Munford to Otway Byrd for 5 shillings and “more especially for the love and affection he hath for the said Otway Byrd and his Daughter Ursulaanna Byrd.” It also states that Robert Munford and Otway Byrd were both from Mecklenburg, Virginia, United States.

Note on Profile Name Change Francis Otway Byrd's name was originally shown as William Otway Byrd, with wife Ursula Anna Munford. It was changed to Francis Otway Byrd on 30 Aug 2019, with the source as the Revolutionary War pension application for the service of Francis Otway Byrd.[1]
