Biography

William Byrd was born October 01, 1830, and died December 04, 1883. William married first Mary Ann Elizabeth Fairey, daughter of Jesse Fairey and Mary Syfrett. Mary was born May 03, 1829 and died April 18, 1869. William married second Frances A. Edwards, daughter of Thomas Edwards and Dorcas Syfrett. She was born 1843 and died August 18, 1910.

William was a Confederate soldier. William and his second wife, Frances A. Edwards, his son by his first wife, William Byrd, and his son by his second wife, Julius R. Byrd are buried in the family plot at Sardis Methodist Church Cemetery, Branchville, South Carolina. His grave marker states, " He was a consistent Member of the M. E. Church South at this place for over 35 years" His first wife is buried with her parents in a small Fairey family cemetery several miles away

Birth date was calculated from inscription at death of " AGED 53 YEARS 2 MONTHS and 3 DAYS " using date calculator in Personal Ancestral File (computer program).

Burial Dec. 1883, Sardis Methodist Church, Branchville, Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

Military Service: Between 1861 - 1864 " 4th SOUTH CAROLINA CONFEDERATE CAVALRY ", CSA CROSS AT FOOT OF GRAVE.
