Nathaniel Byrd was born March 6, 1792 and died on Nov. 30, 1850. He received some schooling ans was able to read and write. Nathaniel married Maria Fairey on April 15, 1819 daughter of John Fairey and Margaret Syfrett. Maria was born July 08, 1801 and died June 17,, 1885. Nathaniel was 27 years of age when he married Maria.
Nathaniel Byrd served as a private at Sullivan's Island, Charleston Harbor, in the War of 1812. He was drafted at Orangeburgh Court House on or about June 1812 for the term of three months and continued in actual service in the war for three (3) months and was honorably discharged about September 1812. He serced in the Third Regiment, State Troops for 84 days and was discharged at Haddrells Point 15 September 1812. ( Pension Records, War of 1812, National Archives )

Nathaniel Byrd and his family were members of Sardis Church, and he and his wife, Maria were buried at Byrd Cemetery, Branchville, Orangeburg County, South Carolina.
