Christina departed with her parents and sister from Hamburg for the United States on 6 May 1884 aboard the "Breslau".[2]
The Byriel family settled in Gray, Audubon, Iowa. Mathias unfortunately died on 3 October 1886, just a few years after arriving, and left his wife with four small children.
Her mother died in 1894 in Kimballton, Audubon, Iowa.
Christina Marcusen died in 1965 in Kimballton and was interred in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Kimballton, Audubon[4]
