John was born before 1285. He was the son of Hugh Cailly and Agnes Hemstede. He is referred to in a feet of fines entry of 1286.[1]
In 1303 he was returned owner of one knight's fee in Horton, wapentake of Staincliffe, West Riding of Yorkshire.[1]
