Daniel Cain was born about 1841 in Hancock county, Illinois. He was the son of James Cain (1802-1893) and Elizabeth Hunter. His parents were married in Claiborne county, Tennessee, possibly about 1822. James and Elizabeth had eleven children. The first seven were probably born in Claiborne county; William 1823, Brice 1825, Keziah 1826, Martha 1830, James 1833, John 1837 and Susan 1838. The last four children were born in Hancock county, Illinois; Daniel 1841, David 1842, Henry 1844 and Abraham 1847.
Daniel married Mrs. Ellen Vance on 29 June 1874 in Saline county, Missouri. They had one known son, Terrace E. Cain 1893.[1]
