John Calcote, Sr. was born 1755 in New Port Parish, Colony of Virginia and died 1830 in Franklin County, MS. He was a Pioneer settler of the Mississippi Territory.
He served in the American Revolutionary War from South Carolina with General Francis Marion, known as the "Swamp Fox". A descendant and member of the Daughters of American Revolution acquired the Rev. Soldier Marker and was responsible for its dedication in the 1990's. Several DAR Chapters were present at the dedication, including Chloe Holt chapter DAR, Bogue Chitto, MS.
