Biography

James Cameron was born in 1758, son of John Canaday Cameron (1741 - 1792) and Margaret (Jones) Cameron (~1741 - 1792).

James (~26) married Charity Ann Spangler (27) (born in Pennsylvania on 17 Mar 1757; died in Wolf Creek, Tazewell, Wythe, Virginia on 29 Apr 1855), daughter of Peter Spengler and Mary Margaret Moser, on 20 Jul 1784 in Thompson Valley, Wythe County, Virginia.

At some point, the family moved to Floyd County, Kentucky.

In September 1832, James Cameron (74) applied for this military pension in the Floyd County Court.[1][2]

  • Served in the Western Battalion
  • Lived in Shenandoah, VA when he entered the service
  • Escaped an attack from the Native Americans near Fort Pitt (Pennsylvania)
  • Moved to Louisville (Falls of Ohio) where George Rogers Clark was and stayed until end of war.
