He inherited the office of Sheriff of Ayr from his father. He was also known as Sir Malcolm Campbell of Loudoun.
He married firstly, Agnes or Katherine Kennedy, daughter of Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure, 1st Lord Kennedy[1][2][4] and Catherine Maxwell. They were parents of:
Hugh, of Loudoun]], his heir,[3][5] born about 1476, died on or before 4 Aug 1508[2]
There is one daughter, Annabella, who is typically claimed to be a granddaughter - daughter to the eldest child Hugh. The is likely due to the document witnessed by her husband as son-in-law to Isobel Wallace (wife of Hugh.[6] It is claimed by others, however, that the inherintence of the barony of Auchinleck was through his wife being the daughter of Marion Auchinleck (Hughes step-mother) rather than the daughter of Isobel Walace.
It is claimed that Hugh Campbell would have been only 15 in 1491 when Annabella was born, and he did not marry Isobel Wallace until 1495 so is unlikely they are the parents of Annabella Campbell who married Thomas Boswell. Unfortunately, such a claim is based on estimated dates and both the birth of Hugh and the date of the marriage could have been earlier.
