Everyone but Harriet was listed as German, and we find out that Edward spoke German as well as English. Their religion is listed as "Church of Christ". There are many groups that use that name, but we know from her daughters that their specific denomination was Church of Christ Scientist, founded in 1879 in Boston, Massachusetts, by Mary Baker Eddy. In the 1930 United States Census Harriet and Edward at studying at "God's Bible School" in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States (a Methodist school). At the time, the school was offering a diploma program (in 1936 they started offering a 4 year program). [9]
It began as a diploma course, devoted almost exclusively to the study of the Bible and practical subjects. The goal of the institution was to enable the students to be effective workers in what Knapp called the "great, whitened harvest field." The original curriculum was called the Christian Worker's Course ~ God's Bible School
(note - is it possible they were teaching at the school?)
