Biography

Original Name: Francis Nanzio Carlone, AKA Frankie Carle

Musician. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was a pianist and popular bandleader in the big band era. Starting in 1916, he worked with a number of mainstream dance orchestras forming his own band in 1944. With his daughter as the lead singer billed as Marjorie Hughes, he recorded several million-sellers including his theme song, "Sunrise Serenade" (1938). His many albums included "Ridin' High", "Frankie Carle and His Girl Friends", "Frankie Carle Plays Honky Tonk", "Cocktail Time with Frankie Carle" and "Roses in Rhythm". He broke up his band after 1955 and performed mainly as a soloist thereafter. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
