Note NI278From March 19, 1857 issue of "St Louis Christian Advocate" "Died - At the residence of her son-in-law, Judge Eudaley, at Cain Creek Butler county Mo, on the 5th instant, sister Mary Cox, in the seventieth year of her age. Mother Cox was the daughter of Jacob and Mary Cooper (s/b Carper). She was born on the 14th of May, 1787, in Fincastle, Va; removed with her parents to Jefferson county Tenn where in, 1805 she was united in marriage to Mr. Cox; joined the Methodist Church in 1815. and ever after lived a Christian's life, and at last died a Christian's death. J.M.Wheeler Poplar Bluff, Mo.. Feb 25 1857" We wrote to Jefferson Co TN asking who Mary Cooper had married on that date, and received a marriage record and marriage bond for Reed Cox and Mary Carper. Mary would have been aged 42 when James Cox was born. She would have been 39 when Jacob was born. Was she too old to be their mother? I don't know, but her only marriage was to Reed Cox.
