Biography

Nancy Carter was born about 1765. She is the daughter of John Carter and Mary Fleming.

"William Creasy and Nancy Carter were married 26 September 26, 1784 [in Cumberland County, Virginia].[1] The signers were William Creasy and Peter Montague. In the early 1800's William Creasy Sr. (Creesy-Creecy-Creasy, the name is spelled 3 or 4 different ways in as many different census records), and his wife Nancy (Carter) Creasy moved from Virginia to Giles County, Tennessee." [2] William's father, John Creasey's, land bounded on John Carter's land in 1788.[3]

Mary Carter of Cumberland County, Virginia set her hand and seal to her Last Will and Testament on the 11th day of October 1794 making a special bequest to her daughter Nancy Creasy to receive one colt.[4]

The 1820 Census for Giles County, Tennessee enumerated the household of William "Crecy" with:

one male age10-16, one male age 16-18, two males age 16-26, one male over age 45, :one female age 16-26, one female age 26-45, one female over 45[5]

On the 22nd day of June 1836, William "Creecy" Senior sold two parcels of land, one containing 49-1/2 acres to John Creecy and one containing 121-1/2 acres to Jesse Creecey, with the stipulation on each that the said William Creecy hereby reserves to himself and his wife Nancy Creecy a life Estate of and to the same.[6][7] It should be noted that William signed with his mark deeds containing various spellings of his last name.

Nancy died after the 22nd day of June 1836.
