Biography

Walter Joseph Carter was born 11 February 1870 in Logan County, Arkansas. [1] He was a son of Joseph McCarroll Carter and Elizabeth Matilda Williams. [2] He married Hannah Irene Real 4 September 1898 in Logan County, Arkansas. [3] [4] [5] [6] He passed away 28 May 1932 in Scranton, Logan County, Arkansas. He was interred in McKendree Cemetery, Subiaco, Logan County, Arkansas. [7] [1]

Joseph Walter and Walter Joseph are used interchangeably.

Obituary for Walter Joseph Carter

"Widely Kown(sic) School Man dies at home Friday. Walter J. Carter, 61 years old, a lifelong resident of Logan County and a widely known educator, died suddenly at his home two miles west of Scranton last Friday morning at 7 o'clock from a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Carter suffered an attack Thursday but was believed to have recovered. He was stricken again Friday in a barn at his home, and his body was found by his son, Walter Lee, 16 years old. Mr. Carter taught for 40 years in Logan County schools. At the time of his death, he was principal of the Scranton consolidated school. He was superintendent of the schools of Scranton in 1929 and 1930. He served as deputy sheriff in 1913 under Jno. A. Lasater and Geo. L. Cravens. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Geo. Patterson, pastor of the Christian Church of Russellville. Arrangements were in charge of Jacobs funeral service. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Jim and Walter Lee of Scranton, and Pete Carter of Paris; five daughters, Mrs. H. L. Williams, Van Buren; Mrs. Jim Earls, Paris; Mrs. Lucian Limbeck, Misses Hilda and Lorainne Carter of Scranton; four brothers, Lee Carter of California, Fred Carter of Stillwater, Okla., Jordon Carter of Stigler, Okla., Jack Carter of Ozark, Ark., and five sisters, Mrs. T. P. Real and Mrs. Louis Farris (Fairless) of Ashland, Okla., Mrs. Anne Miller of Dardanelle, and Mrs. S. W. Lipe and Mrs. Chas. H. Houser of Paris."
