    Ephraim Carter was at Ft. Pownal on the Penobscot River from July 16, 1759 to July 28, 1760 for 54 weeks and one day as a "Quality Private". He entered by his mother's consent - "Hanr Carter".     He was a signer of a petition in 1760 by a number of inhabitants of Casco Bay for land on the Northern and Western side of the Island of Mt. Desert and next adjoining the same on the Main - for a township -. (Ellsworth American, Mar. 24, 1892, series of articles "Old Trenton, 1762 - 1800" by William Freeman)     Ephraim Carter also served in the Revolution as a private in Col. William Jones Regt. of militia under the command of Capt. Benj. Plumer in the expedition against MajaBagaduce - from the 6th of July to the 24 of Sept. 1779. He shows on the payroll in Col. Samuel McCobb's Regt. (Information from "Soldiers in the Revolution from Bristol, Maine, and vicinity", communicated by Frank Ernest Woodward, in The Genealogical Advertiser, Vol. 4, pp 155 -6, 1901 and reprinted 1974.) This muster roll appears on pp 98, 115 in Vol. 37 of Rev. Rolls in Mass. Archives.)
