Biography

Sergeant Burrel Carter served in the Mississippi Militia in the War of 1812

Burrell Carter was born June 2, 1796, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, a son of Isaac Carter and Ann Elizabeth Young. Burrel's father is Daughter of the American Revolution Patriot. [1] Burrell served as a Sergeant in the 13th Mississippi Regiment in the War of 1812.[2] [3]
On October 29, 1818, in St. Tammany, Louisiana, Burrell married Judith (Taylor White), widow of Robert White. [4] Judith has been reported to be a daughter of Nimrod Taylor, formerly of Wilkes County, Georgia. She had children by her first marriage, including Caroline Virginia White, called "Callie", who married Harvil Carter, younger brother of Burrell.

"Burrel" Carter and his wife "Judy" are found on the United States Census of 1850, residing in Pike County, Mississippi. Both are 55 years of age. Living with them in the household are Walton N. Carter, age 26, Nancy Carter, age 16, Elizabeth Carter, age 13 and Angeline Carter, age 13. All of the children, grandchildren? were born in Mississippi. [5]

Burrell Carter died August 28, 1860, at the age of 64 years, in Darlington, St Helena Parish, Louisiana. [6] Darlington Plantation, Chipola, Louisiana is located in northwest St. Helena Parish, Louisiana, near the Amite River.

Burrel CARTER, whose signature contained only one letter "L", was born ca. 1795 or 1796 to parents Isaac Carter and Ann Elizabeth (Young) Carter in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He removed to Pike County, Mississippi with his family and other members of the community in about 1809. [7]
