Dennis (or, Denys) Cassat was born in February 1776 and was baptised at Conewago, March 10, 1776. He derived his name from Denis Van Duyn, son of David and Ida (Montfort) Van Duyn, who was baptised at Readington, N. J. January 1, 1744. Dennis died Circa 1810. Married Lydia Simpson, born March 6, 1775, the daughter of John Simpson - son of John and Margaret Murray - son of General John Simpson who arrived in Pennsylvania 1664. John Simpson was an early Scotch-Irish settler near the Maryland line and Adams or Franklin County, Pa. This family was much inter¬married with the early Scotch-Irish families who were among the first settlers of Central Pennsylvania, some of whom migrated from eastern portions of the State. Dennis was the grandfather of the late Alexander J. Cassatt of Philadelphia the noted finan¬cier and President of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company.
