It does not appear from public records that Thomas was the father of the Thomas Chapple who married Thomazine Chamberlain. Catherine Courtenay appears as marrying " _________ Chappell" in the Visitations (Thomas in one version; Robert in another version; and Anthony in Westcotes 1600s history of Devon). Thomas is known from Devon Wills to have been one of five brothers; John, Anthony, Thomas, George and William. The Will of John (1561) mentions his brothers daughter in law, Thomazine Chamberlain. The 1561 Will of Humphrey Chappell, who was apparently a cousin, mentions Thomazine the daughter in law to William Chappell of Exeter. Thus documents would appear to indicate that the father of Thomas Chappell was William Chappel, rather than his brother Thomas.
