Biography

Mary (Cheney) Lawes immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Mary Cheney was baptized in Mistley, Essex on 24 July 1625. Her parents were John and Amie Cheney. [1][2]

"John Cheny he came into the Land in the year 1635. He brought 4 children, Mary, Martha, John, Daniel." [3]

Mary married at Rowley 03 September 1645 to William Lawes (her surname does not appear in the marriage record, but her identity is demonstrated by her father's will).[4]

In John Cheney's will, dated 5 June 1666 and proved 25 September 1666, he made a bequest to "William Lawes's three daughters namely Rebeca, Mary and Pricilla" 40s each at age 18.[5]

Her husband's estate papers indicate he was married a second time, and a marriage record indicates he married on 02 May 1666,[6] so she likely was deceased by that date.
