  • Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch John was probably born at Marblehead, MA; his parents were living there at the time of his birth. By the time of his marriage, John was residing in Lynn, MA; he might have gone to Lynn to learn a trade. It was here he married Sarah. They lived at Lynn for at least 43 years, and it is thought that all their children were born there. John worked in the iron industry. 20th July 1675, John Chillson is mentioned as giving evidence in an Essex court case on how the fire started that burned the coal house at Saugus Iron Works. He took the Oath of Fidelity in Lynn 26 Feb 1677; he would have been 32 at the time. On the 26th of June 1677, he was one of the persons who inventoried the estate of Henry Dispaw of Lynn. 10 April 1683 he received payment for bridge work done in Essex County. He was surety on a bond 2nd August 1684 for Samuel Appleton of Lynn in a land controversy. On 29 Mar 1686, he gave testimony in an Essex County court case about a land dispute. He is listed as a resident of Lynn, Essex, MA on 11 Nov. 1700. He was witness for a deed 29 May 1701 in Lynn. On 7 Sep 1704, he sold land in Lynn, lying on the Saugus River, to John Hawks. However, this sale was not recorded till 14 May 1726 in Medfield and an Elizabeth Chilson was witness. Who this Elizabeth was is unclear. Was she another daughter John is rumored to have had? John signed as a dissenter to a law in Lynn regarding the town common on 14 August 1706. Then he and Sarah sold land in Lynn to Thomas Cheeves the 21st Aug. 1710. At some point after this John removed from Lynn to the Bellingham, MA area, it was here he died. 9 Why did John pick up and move so far from the area he had been in for over 40 years is unknown; perhaps Sarah had died and he moved south to be closer to his children. Both his sons, William and Walsingham, lived in that area; they farmed and had a cotton mill on Peter’s River. John might have died as early as 15 July 1725, when his son Walsingham sold land that had belonged to John in Lynn, MA. Perhaps this was an estate sale.14 In 1731, the estate of John sold 110 acres near Peter’s River, which is located in the southern part of the state. Chilson-20 and Chilson-5 appear to represent the same person because: we have a few differences. I have taken the death date from the LDS database, but they do not include a reference. They are not always right, so if you have documentation, my date can be deleted. if nether of us has documentation we should probably footnote.

Spouse is the same, area is the same, child is the same.

my formatting is also not quite right, but that can be fixed after the merge
