Biography

Agnes (Chisholm) Watson was born in Scotland.

Agnes (Chisholm) Watson migrated from Scotland to the Colony of Queensland.

Agnes Chisholm was born on 10 October 1809 in Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland. She was the daughter of George Chisholm and Marjory Magdalene Moffat.^[1]

She married William Watson on 24 December 1831 at Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.^[2]

William and Agnes had seven children:

4. William Watson m Isabella Caldwell
5. John Chisholm Watson m Johana Brodersen
6. Margaret Gorrie Watson m Alfred John Woodroffe

In 1851, William and Agnes were living at Netherton Broad St, Dunfermline with four of their children. Agnes' birthplace was given as North Queensferry and her birth year as about 1816.^[3]

At some stage before November 1853, the family emigrated to Brisbane in the Colony of Queensland where their youngest child, Daniel Chisholm Watson, was born.

Agnes Watson died on 1 August 1883^[4] at her residence at Fortescue St, Spring Hill, Brisbane, Queensland.^[5] The cause of death was bowel obstruction.

She was buried on 3 August 1883 at Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane.^[6]

There are two birth records for Agnes Chisholm at Inverkeithing, Fife; both with parents of George Chisholm and Maidy Moffat- 10 Oct 1809 and 29 Dec 1809. Cody-939 06:42, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

On her Death Certificate her son, William Watson, states that her mother's surname is Gorrey and her father's is Chisolme, a Customs Officer. Her mother's surname does not appear to be Gorrey. Her father was a Chisholm, and was a Customs officer. Cody-939 06:42, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

The census of 1851 has her birth year as about 1816 which conflicts. It also has her birthplace as North Queensferry which is probably accurate as it is right next to Inverkeithing and her father was the ferry master. Cody-939 06:42, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
