Biography

Eliza was born in South Carolina about 1811[1] and died sometime before 1860[2] possibly in Barbour County, Alabama.[1] The daughter of Moses & Sarah Christmas, she was married to Daniel Clark Jr.[3][4][5][6] by 1830.[7]

She is named in her father's will which was proven in Sumter County, South Carolina on 24 May 1819 and recorded in Houston County, Georgia on 29 Nov 1827.

Will of Moses Christmas of Sumter County, South Caolina. Written on 16 Feb 1818 - Bequeathed to his wife Sarah Christmas all household and kitchen furniture, his mare, and use of his plantation during her widowhood. To his four children, Charlotte, Sarah, Eliza and Moses, his plantation, negroes, and estate residue, share and share alike.
Executor: Friend, Gabriel Capen.
Witnesses: Joseph Siliman, Epsy Christmas, and Samuel Murrell.[3][8][9][10]

In 1830 they appear in Houston County, Georgia on the census with the following household members-

males)-5:1 ; 20-30:1
females) 15-20:1[7]

By 1840, the family has grown to include the following household members-

males)-5:1 ; 5-10:1 ; 10-15:1 ; 30-40:1
females)-5:1 ; 5-10:1 ; 20-30:1[11] By 1850 the family has moved west over the Georgia/Alabama line into Barbour County, Alabama.[1]

Daniel and Elizabeth had the following known children:

  1. Samuel Clark was born in Houston County, Georgia about 1830.[1]
  2. Charlotte Clark was born in Houston County, Georgia about 1834.[1]
  3. Daniel Clark was born in Houston County, Georgia about 1835.[1]
  4. James Clark was born in Houston County, Georgia about 1838.[1]
  5. Sarah Clark was born in Houston County, Georgia about 1840.[1]
  6. Stephen Clark was born in Georgia about 1842.[1][2]
  7. Andrew J.[2] Clark was born in Georgia about 1845.[1]
  8. Catherine Carolina[2] Clark was born in Georgia about 1847.[1]
