Biography

Amey Clay was born about 1708, daughter of Henry Clay and Mary Mitchell[1][2]

Her first husband was William Green, (later she married Benjamin Williamson[3]). Their daughter Martha was born 8 May 1734 and christened 4 July 1734.[4]

She was the administrator of her first husband William Green's will and in July of 1745, now married to Berryman Williamson, she returned the inventory of William Green's estate.[5]

There seems to have been some conflict regarding the guardianship of their children and the disposal of William Green's estate, as Amey and her second spouse Berryman Williamson were ordered on January 2, 1748, to return an inventory of William Green's estate to Thomas Green, the guardian of the children.

Ten years later, on May 20, 1758, a suit was brought against Abraham Green, William Green and Henry Clay, executors of the estate of William Green, by Thomas Green, his wife Martha, Edward Moseley and his wife Amey, Thomas Green, William Green, and John Green, children and orphans of the deceased William Green.[5]

She died in 1774 and was buried in Green Cemetery, Amelia County, Virginia.[2]

Clay-3633 and Clay-245 appear to represent the same person because: Husbands already merged.

Seems like her last name should properly be Clay.

She became Green and then Williamson by marriage.

Clay-4114 and Clay-245 appear to represent the same person because: Looks like the 1727 marriage date would be the correct one. Would be good to add sources to support the date.

Amey Clay did not marry 2 William Greens. Not sure I can fix this.

Please do not REMOVE sources. I added one yesterday for the images I have posted on this profile on each image, then posted the source in the profile. Not long after it was removed. if I am doing the source wrong or it could be better formatted, please let me know. Do not remove a source. Thanks.

Hi Betty, could you add the titles of the books and page #s to your images so they can serve as sources? Thanks

Left a note on the two William Greens profiles. It appears that merges have been proposed a couple of times and rejected. The differences are in the birth of each, and the full names of the parents. Either a parent is missing the middle name and the other parents is missing the first name. One profile has less children, but they are the same on the other profile. They should be merged.
