Con Colbert was born in 1888, in Moanleana, Castlemahon, county Limerick Ireland, son of Michael and Honora (McDermott) Colbert. [1]
His family moved to Athea in Limerick and he attended the local national school. He later lived with his sister Catherine in Dublin to attend a Christian Brothers school in North Richmond Street. Leaving school, Con Colbert worked as a clerk at Kennedy's Bakery in Dublin.
Catherine Colbert 30 yrs old single dressmaker, sister Elizbith, 23 yrs old typist, brother Corn's 21 yrs bookeeper in bakery, sister Mary O'Brien 31 yrs widow midwife resided in 1911 in house 7.2 in Clifton Terrace (Rathmines & Rathgar East, Dublin). [2]
Con joined Fianna Eirann and became a drill instructor at St. Enda's School, (founded by Patrick Pearse). He was an early member of the Irish Volunteers and joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood.
As the captain of F Company of the Fourth Battalion, Irish Volunteers, Con Colbert led a force of a hundred or more rebels at the Jameson's Marrowbone Lane distillery in Dublin until it was surrendered on Sunday, 30th April 1916. [3]
He was executed by firing squad in Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, on 8th May 1916.[4][5][6]
