Abraham Comeau was born around 1679 in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France. His parents were Pierre Comeau and Jeanne Bourg. He was the second child and first son in this very large family of 18 children.
In 1686, at Port Royal, Abraham, aged 7, was living with his parents, Pierre COMO [sic], aged 32, and Jeanne BOURC [sic], aged 22 [sic], and his five siblings: Marie [recte Marie Anne], aged 8, Marguerite, aged 6, Anne, aged 5, Jeanne [recte Marie Jeanne], aged 4, and Joseph, aged 5 months. The family owned 1 gun and had 10 cattle, 10 sheep, and 8 hogs. No land was listed on the 1686 census but he was living next door to his uncle, Etienne, who had 3 arpents of cultivable land.[1]
In 1698, he was the oldest child at home, along with 13 other siblings.[2] His parents had two more siblings after he married and left home.
He was still living with his parents in the 1701 census.[3]
Abraham (22) married Marguerite Pitre (18) (born about 1683 in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Jean Pitre and Marie Pesseley) in 1702 in Acadie. Together they had 13 children between 1702 and 1727.[4]
They have their own home and one daughter in 1703.[5]
He was a life long Port Royal resident, as he was enumerated there in the censuses of 1703, [5] 1707,[6] 1710[7] and 1714,[8] and all their children were born there.
Marie Marguerite was buried in Annapolis Royal on July 12, 1747, written as the spouse of Abraham, not the widow, though he was not among the witnesses to her ceremony.[9] Two of their children had previous entries on the same page, but there is no entry for him on June 12 (that date removed). On Feb 10, 1749, their daughter Catherine was married. Marie was noted as deceased but Alexandre appeared to be still living.[10]
