Biography

William married Rebecca Claypoole on November 21, 1752 at Christ Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

William and Rebecca had four children during their marriage.

  • Benjamin b. 1753 died at birth
  • Joseph b. 1755 died at birth
  • Francis
  • William Jr. b.1760. He married Nancy A. King
  • Abraham
  • George
  • Comfort, b. before 1762. She married Cord Hazzard

He married for a second time, a woman named Sarah, possibly the widow of Wrixam Lewis. William's will leaves his wife Sarah various bequests "together with all and singular the good and chattels rights and credits which were her property when I intermarried with her on this special condition that she my said wife Sarah or her heirs, pay or cause to be paid a certain Bond given by her to Margaret Kollock and also make up with the Estate of Wrixam Lewis Esq…”

William died in late February 1782.
