John Copsey was born in 1753 in Little Saxham, Suffolk, England. He was the son of John Copsey and Tammason Wright. Little Saxham is about six kilometres west of Bury St Edmunds.
John married Mary Ringon on 26th March 1775 in St Andrew's Church, Great Saxham, Suffolk.
He passed away on 11th December 1808 in Little Saxham.
