"Cerdell (Cordell), Alexander & Dienna Wilsen, niece and ward of Sanford Ramey. Order Bk. 4, p. 290, Sanford Ramey appointed bride's guardian, orphan of James Wilson late Culpepper Co., now Madison County. Permission to marry. 21 June 1813." From Marriages of Loudoun County, Virginia 1757-1853, Compiled by Mary Alice Wertz, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore, 1985.
In early day, when county militias were needed, the county was divided into
three battalions. These were designated areas of the county, just like
carving up a county today into various districts, such as the current
Mercer, Broad Run and Jefferson districts in the county. In 1782 when the
state required the collecting of personal property taxes and land taxes, the
county used these designated battalion areas to assign the collectors etc.
There was the First Battalion or District, the Second Battalion also called
the Cameron Parish area, and the Third Battalion. The First Battalion was in
the northwestern corner of the county, the Second Battalion was in the
southeast corner east of Goose Creek and the Third Battalion was in the
center of the county and included Leesburg. The A, B, and C after the years
in the lists just indicate the placement on the microfilm for each list
within each year. The microfilms were of the lists that were sent to the
State Auditor in Richmond each year, as the courthouse in Leesburg over the
years did not retain those lists.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Alexander by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Alexander:
