His name is recorded as Christopher Adam in his baptism record, John Christopher in his marriage record, and simply Christopher Corkum in his burial record. It seems the custom for German males at that time to be given a first name such as Johann (John by someone translating to English) but normally were known by their second name so the Johann/John doesn't often appear in records.
Baptism:
Date: July 23, 1754
Place: St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia[1]
This is the date of baptism, not the actual date of birth so it may have been an earlier date. Rev. J.B.E. Moreau did not include birth dates in his entries. The church records began including the date of birth in the baptism entries in 1771.
He is named in the victualling lists at Lunenburg with Wilhelm's family in June 1755 as number 1391 "Christoph Adam Gorckum", in Feb-May 1756 "Adam Gorcum", and Jan-May 1757 "Adam Gorckum".[5]
Confusingly, he appears to have an uncle named Christopher Adam Corkum. Can anyone confirm if this is correct, or a mix-up? [Question posted by Chris Whitten, April 2010]

Research Notes
There's some question about his wife's surname. It is recorded as "Mossman" here on WikiTree but in the Dutch Reformed Church records (as translated from German by Revd. Bruin Romkes Comingo, he records her name as Barbara "Moss". See my Research Notes on Catherine regarding her name.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Christopher by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Christopher:
HOWEVER there were four John William Corkum's born between 1782 and 1786 and there were FOUR John William or William Corkum's married between 1805 and 1809. It is next to impossible to identify which birth was which marriage. There are some existing profiles for some of these William Corkum's but unable to connect to the proper parents.
His birth surname would have been spelled Gorkum (although sometimes written as Gorcum) as the Corkum spelling didn't evolve until some time after the family had been in Nova Scotia.
