Research Notes

According to genealogist Karen Theriot Reader, Guillaume was born about 1750 in Margaree, Inverness, Nova Scotia[2] However in 1752 and 1755 his parents were listed in the censuses at Baie-Verte, in present-day New Brunswick, with 4 boys in 1752 and no children in 1755. [5] [6] Either his estimated date of birth is incorrect or he was born in or near Baie-Verte.

Karen Theriot Reader suggests that he died on 30 January 1830 in Margaree, aged about 80 years old. Other family trees mention October 30, 1818[7] as date of death without sources. Could not find a burial record in Ancestry, Family Search or in St. Michaels Parish Record 1812-1891 " In the marriage record for Guillaume Cormier's daughter Marie-Modeste  (April 26, 1819) and for his son Jean (January 24, 1820), Guillaume is said to be deceased."[7]

From Michael B. Melanson "Cormier Genealogy" [1]:

Guillaume dit Big Bill Cormier, was born in Beaubassin, Acadia circa 1750, son of François dit Palette Cormier and Anne Chiasson. He died in Margaree, Nova Scotia, before the 1809 census. He married on Île St-Jean (Prince Edward Island) circa 1775, Isabelle Boudrot. Isabelle was born 29 October 1763 and baptized at Plouër (Rg) France, 29 October 1763, as Élisabeth, daughter of Germain Boudrot and Anne Hébert. She died 19 May 1845 and was buried in Margaree (Rg) 2 June 1845. In August 1809, the widowed Isabelle was recorded in the Catholic census of Margaree with her children: Urbain, Guillaume, Isidore, Jean, Anne-Marie, and Marie-Modeste.

This profile indicates a marriage around 1780 in Margaree. Michael B. Melanson in his book "Cormier Genealogy" believes they were married around 1775 on Île Saint-Jean. There are sources that show both of their fathers on Île Saint-Jean (around that time is certain for Guillaume’s father, after 1773 for Elisabeth’s father). Are there any sources for a marriage in Margaree?
