THE SCHOOLS. Timaru Herald, Volume XCVIII, Issue 15229, 22 December 1913, Page 8 ESK VALLEY. The annual picnic and distribution of prizes in connection with the Esk Valley school took place on Friday afternoon, and considering the wet and changeable weather lately the committee were fortunate in having a fine afternoon for the function. Consequently a very good and representative attendance was obtained. The usual picnic games were indulged in. About 4 o'clock an adjournment was made to the schoolroom where an abundance of refreshments provided by the ladies of the district were laid out. After ample justice had been done to the good things provided, the distribution of prizes, was proceeded with. The chairman, Mr A. L. Mead, thanked those present for their Attendance, the ladies who had provided the refreshments. and all who had in any way contributed to the success of the gathering. Mr James Henderson, late of Scotston, Esk Valley, but now of Timaru presented the prizes, after giving the children some good advice about taking good care of their prizes books and making good use of their opportunities. The thanks of the committee are due to Mesdames Henderson, Mead, and Bell for their kindness in judging the sewing. The following is the prize list: —Std. 4 —lrene Gray, Eileen O'Leary, Margaret Forrest. Std. 3 —Vida Hampton, Ethel Coles. Std 2 —Doris Hall, George Stephens, Margaret Hall.
