Biography

William was born in May 1822 in Floyd County, Kentucky. He was the oldest son of John Craft and Susannah (Hagins) Craft.[1]

When William was 25 he married Rhoda Hampton on 1 June 1847 in Morgan County, Kentucky.[2]

In the 1850 census William (age 28) was living in District 1, Breathitt, Kentucky.[3][1]

In the 1860 and 1870 census William was living in Magoffin, Kentucky.[4]In the 1870 census William (age 48) was living in Salyersville, Magoffin, Kentucky.[5]

When William was 54 he married Mary Polly Barnett on 19 September 1876 in Magoffin County, Kentucky.[6]

In the 1880 census William (age 58) was living in Salyersville, Magoffin, Kentucky.[7]

When William was 60 he married Cora Noe on 8 August 1882 in Magoffin County, Kentucky.[6]

From the local newspaper in 1891:

'William Craft, ex-county surveyor of Magoffin county, was last week struck on the hack of the head with a rock thrown by Wiley Adams, and he is not expected to live. Mr. Craft was on his horse at the time, and received additional injuries in falling. He is an old man, having passed his three score and ten years, and it is thought his wounds will prove fatal.
Adams was indicted at this term of the Magoffin circuit court for selling the school of which he which he was a trustee, and he accused Craft of using instrumental in securing the indictment. Craft admitted that he was, and the blow followed. Adams had not been arrested at last accounts.[8]

In the 1900 census William (age 78) was living in Magisterial District 2, Morgan, Kentucky.[9]

William died at the age of 91 on 18 November 1913 in Ebon, Morgan, Kentucky. They buried him on 21 November 1913 in Craft Graveyard/Ebon, Morgan, Kentucky.[10]
