Isaiah Craighead lived in Virginia.


Isaiah was born in 1782 in Franklin County, Virginia to parents John Craighead and Jane (Maxey) Craighead.

Marriage: He married Feminina Robinson on December 27, 1802 in Bedford Co, Virginia. They had at least seven children (all were born in Virginia).

Their children are:

  1. John Robert Craghead, born October 1, 1803 and died September 20, 1866. He married Sarah Hale October 28, 1823.
  2. Jane English Craghead, born February 21, 1805 and died May 19, 1871. Jane married Joseph P. Callaway April 28, 1839.
  3. George Hopkins Craghead, born November 18, 1806 and died October 12, 1832. He married his cousin Sarah Craghead, daughter of Robert M. and Nancy Craghead.
  4. James L. Craghead, born January 4, 1810 and died May 5, 1892. James was married twice, 1st Mary A. Williamson born July 25, 1825, 2nd Nancy Ashworth Mattox. They were married April 24, 1890. James was called “Walking Jim” as he always enjoyed taking long hikes. He did not father any children with either wife. He was a Baptist, while the rest of his family were Methodist.
  5. Isaiah Washington Craghead, born February 28, 1813, and died March 31, 1873. He married Susan Bethena Kemp December 31, 1840. Susan was born September 9, 1817 and died December 26, 1865. She was the daughter of Walter and Derusha (Key) Kemp.
  6. William Arthur Breckenridge Craghead, born September 6, 1815 and died October 23, 1898. He married his second cousin Nancy C. May February 25, 1848. Nancy was born February 15, 1830 and died April 19, 1889. Nancy was the daughter of Gabrael and Elizabeth (Craghead) May.
  7. Nancy Feminetta Craghead, born January 16, 1818 and married James William Bradley June 8, 1847. Nancy died November 5, 1896. They had one daughter.

They removed firstly to Kentucky about 1828 then on to Callaway County, Missouri (near Fulton, Missouri) by 1830. They were early pioneers in Callaway County, Missouri.

He passed away in Aug 1864 in Callaway County, Missouri andis buried at the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Auxvasse, Callaway County, Missouri. [1]

Notations on Isaiah Walter Craighread and Feminina (Robinson) Craighead: "Isaiah [Walter} Craghead, born September 10, 1782 and died August 22, 1864. He married Feminine Robinson December 27, 1802. They left Virginia and moved to Kentucky for two years and then on to Callaway, Co. Missouri. Isaiah always used the “i” in his last name. It is said that Isaiah made a practice of compounding various drugs and chemicals. His ledgers show many purchases of such items in large quantities. He is said to have been very capable in many ways. In fact, he lost his life trying to build some sort of building which only he knew how to build, even though he was up in years at the time. “ CRAIGHEAD, Robert M. and Isaiah Craighead were brothers, and they had a nephew named John who was a son of their brother, John, of VA. Robert M. married NANCY POWELL and they had William, Solomon, Robert, Jr., Jonathan, Stephen, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, and Nancy. They settled in Callaway Co. in 1819. Isaiah married FEMININE ROBINSON, and settled in Callaway Co. in 1830. His children were John R., George, James, Isaiah W., William A. B., Jane, and Nancy )P. John R. married SARAH HALL [Hale], and they had Isaiah O., John W., Mark A., James, Patrick H., Caroline, and Lucy J.
