Biography

Harriet was born in Mile End, East London in 1877. Her parents were James and Amelia. The 1881 census has Harriet and her elder sister Amelia living at 125 Bridge Street, Mile End Old Town and James is a greengrocer.

In 1891 she is living with her Aunt Janet Brown's family (nee Crawford) and her Grandmother Susan is also living there. This often happens if parents are in institutions eg Hospital and neither can be found in 1891 so perhaps this is the case

Harriet is 16 when her mother dies and at 21 marries Walter Cowper in Deptford, Kent. Walter is a cab driver

Harriet and Walter have a son, who sadly died aged 9 and 3 daughters. In 1901 they are living in Deptford with toddler Walter and 10 years later they are still there (New Cross, Deptford) with their 3 girls, having been married 13 years

Sadly Harriet died very suddenly of a heart attack in 1937 aged 60. She is buried in Lewisham
